The wine & cheese is also when we announce the AGSU executive for 2013-14. We are currently looking for the following positions: secretary, treasurer, GSU reps, CUPE reps, Medusa coordinators, vis-a-vis lead editor, vis-a-vis editors, computer coordinator, communications coordinator, and members-at-large. Joining the executive is a great way to get involved with the department, meet other grad students, and build your CV. If you are interested in any of the above roles, please contact Steven and Emma at least 24 hours before the wine & cheese.

Greetings new and returning anthropology grads!
While a more detailed summer update is being sent through email, we would also like to quickly post some information about August and September. For all incoming students, Orientation Day is September 4th this year, the agenda is currently being finalized and should be out shortly. The AGSU will be there as usual to give a brief presentation, sort out office space, and to kick off the mentorship program. Past and present students are encouraged to participate in the mentorship event, details will be sent out soon by Sara, one of our social coordinators for 2013-14.
For current students, office space applications will be going out on July 30th, and will be due back on August 13th. If you do not fill out this form, you will not receive an office. Moving day is tentatively set for August 30th, please try to move out of your current offices by this date (especially if you are not returning or requesting space for 2013-14).
As always, we would also like to start everyone thinking about joining the AGSU Executive in the upcoming year. The following positions are open as of September, and interested students should contact us at least 24 hours before the first department wine & cheese (date TBA): Secretary, Treasurer, Computer Coordinator, Communications Coordinator, GSU Reps, CUPE Reps, Medusa Coordinators, Vis-a-Vis Editors, Vis-a-Vis Lead Editor, and Members at Large. The Chacmool Conference this year is focused on the understanding of cultures worldwide and across time through interpretation and context of the movement of people, materials and ideas. The theme allows for exploration of topics such as conflict and interaction spheres, landscape archaeology, trade, and of course, interaction, migration, and exchange. The interaction, migration, and the exchange of goods and ideas between people have been an effective adaptive strategy as well as being an integral part of human civilization, from hunter-gatherer groups to the metropolises that dot the globe today. These are undeniably important topics for future and current consideration in archaeology.
